At the age of 17 Alex Brown lost her life. In this fatal accident, Alex lost control and was ejected out of the truck. She was texting and driving, and her truck rolled over her. Alex was a straight A student and a Senior at Wellman high. She was loved by all and had a smile that would light up the room. She is survied by her two parents and younger sister.

My service learning class is adovocating the dangers of texting and driving. 44 states have banned texting and driving, so why hasn't Oklahoma. My class and I would love to meet you and speak to you about this issue. We'd also liked to know where you stand and how you could help us make this difference in our state. We can save lives, if we just tried.

Obviously Texting raises the risk in driving. One surprise was that talking on the phone wasn't as dangerous as other research has proven. Although reaching for the phone and dialing on it is just as dangerous as texting. They researched with newly licensed drivers and drivers that had 20 years of experience. Everything that the new drivers participated in raised riskes for crashing. Among the experinced drivers, only dialing on the cellphone increased chances of crash. David Strayer disagreed with this research and said it was "completely at odds with what we found." 12 states ban the use of hand held cellphones while driving and 41 ban texting while driving.
